On the anniversary of Roe VS Wade, January 22nd, we will be showing the movie Unplanned. The court decision involving Roe VS Wade is what legalized abortion in the United States and the movie Unplanned helps bring an understanding and awareness of just how awful abortion is. Our showing of the movie Unplanned is intended to help raise awareness of this topic and to promote a culture of life. As such, the movie will be followed by a discussion.
The movie Unplanned focuses on Abby Johnson. "As one of the youngest Planned Parenthood clinic directors in the nation, Abby Johnson was involved in upwards of 22,000 abortions and counseled countless women on their reproductive choices. Her passion surrounding a woman's right to choose led her to become a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood, fighting to enact legislation for the cause she so deeply believed in. Until the day she saw something that changed everything." (Quoted text provided by Iowa Coalition for life.) As a result of what Abby saw, she underwent a massive conversion of heart. She now fights for life and is an advocate for unborn children.
Due to the graphic nature of this topic and some content in this film, it is best suited for a mature audience. Parents who wish their teenage children to see this movie should accompany them and be prepared to discuss the topic of abortion with them. Youth groups attending should have parents/guardians sign a consent form in advance.
The showing of this film is intended for adults and teenagers who have appropriate consent. The movie will be shown in the St. Joseph Church Hall located in the basement level of the Church. For those unfamiliar with the location of St. Joseph Parish, we are at 1790 14th St., Marion, IA 52302.
If you are bringing a large group, please email Sean McVeigh at s.mcveigh@dbqarch.org so that we can make sure we have enough chairs set up in advance. Please also note that admission is free and seating will be on a first come first serve basis.
