Funeral Planning

About:

A funeral is the community’s celebration of the deceased member's life, an opportunity to offer prayers on that person's behalf, and a time to find support and encouragement from family, friends, and the wider faith community. Parish staff will assist in planning the liturgy and a funeral choir is available to lead the congregational singing. A funeral luncheon may also be provided afterward by volunteers.
What to do:

Family members are invited to contact the Parish Office at 319.377.4869 after the passing of a loved one for prayer support, pastoral care, and help with the funeral planning process. There are many possibilities and options available for funerals, vigils, and visitations. We work closely with funeral homes throughout the process. However, we encourage you to contact the Parish Office first in the process. We simply want to make sure you have the Catholic Church's understanding of what is spiritually important in the process, whereas a funeral home may be more concerned with the earthly, logistical components of your loved one's passing.
Funeral Pre-Planning Information

Funeral pre-planning is also available by appointment by calling the Parish Office at 319.377.4869. This is encouraged for those of you who know a loved one is sick and/or near death because there will be less for you to deal with once the loved one does pass.
